Trainees mount scientific photo exhibit at NIEHS

Scientific images showcasing the range of research conducted at NIEHS now grace the hallways of the Rall building.

The NIEHS Trainees’ Assembly (NTA) has mounted a new photographic tour of the incredible variety of science being done across the institute. The exhibit was completed just in time for the institute’s 50th anniversary kickoff celebration Jan. 21.

The striking images, which range from diagrams to digital photos, and micrographs to electron microscopy images, provide a visual cross section of scientific studies and techniques performed at the institute. Each picture includes a caption, as well as a credit to the scientist who submitted it. The slideshow below includes a few of the 35 images on display.

The NTA steering committee, chaired by Samantha Hoopes, Ph.D., and assisted by Tammy Collins, Ph.D., director of the Office of Fellows’ Career Development, wanted images that represented the breadth of research taking place within the institute, and the labs delivered. The committee received submissions from a large sampling of NIEHS and National Toxicology Program labs.

“I’m delighted that Samantha and the NIEHS Trainees Assembly steering committee were able to collect these images,” said NIEHS Scientific Director Darryl Zeldin, M.D. “It’s important that we use every tool available to share the work being done in our labs with employees and the community.”

NIEHS multimedia contract personnel assisted with the production of the exhibit images.
